podgo-edit

Purpose

Line 6 ships POD Go Edit for Windows and macOS only. This project reverse engineers the USB protocol POD Go Edit uses to talk to the pedal, and builds a small Linux tool on top of it.

Personal use only. Not for redistribution.

Status

Not started. Only the device survey and the plan exist. See:

Scope

Tier Deliverable Rough effort
1 Librarian: list, read, back up, write presets ~1 week
2 Live parameter editing of blocks +2-4 weeks
3 GUI with POD Go Edit parity months (out)

Tier 1 is the target. Tier 2 is decided after tier 1 works. Tier 3 is out of scope.

The effort figures are estimates made before any capture was taken.

Safety rules

  • Back up every preset before the first write to the device.
  • Never reimplement or trigger firmware updates. Use Line 6 Updater (in the Windows VM) for those.
  • Never write to the device from code that has not first been tested against a recorded capture.

Dependencies

Status checked on 2026-10-17 on the development host (Arch / Omarchy).

Dependency Purpose Status on host
Line 6 POD Go, firmware: TBD target device, USB 0e41:4247 connected
Linux snd-usb-audio audio (UAC2) + MIDI interfaces bound, working
udev rule udev/70-pod-go.rules user access to the vendor interface NOT installed
usbmon kernel module USB capture on the host NOT loaded
tshark (Wireshark CLI) capture and dissect USB traffic installed
Wireshark GUI interactive capture inspection missing (optional)
qemu-system-x86_64 Windows VM running POD Go Edit installed
libvirt / virt-manager VM management with USB passthrough missing
Windows 10/11 VM image + licence host for POD Go Edit and its driver missing
POD Go Edit + Line 6 driver (Win) reference client that generates traffic missing
bun 1.4.0 runtime for the tool (TypeScript) installed
libusb binding for bun (TBD) userspace access to interface 0 to be chosen
Ghidra (optional) static analysis of POD Go Edit.exe missing
REA, rea-agents (optional) agent-driven Ghidra / capture analysis not installed

Firmware version of the pedal must be recorded before the first capture: protocol details may change between firmware versions.

Layout
